Social networks are great. The opportunities to make contact with others who share your interests, find chat networks for information and particularly for those who are shut-ins. That is one way I see the benefit for libraries. Those who are unable to make it to the library physically could connect up on-line for book information, even book clubs. The main problem is that many of our shut-ins are elderly and unfamiliar with internet use...but there are many others who could make use of a good library site.

Online applications and tools

Loads of potential for online applications and tools. I can see how valuable they could be for larger libraries and remote libraries. Could also be useful for interaction between branches. Can't see as quite so useful in our small branch where there's only 2 of us, but I think our headquarters could incorporate some of the programs to work between all the branches. I already use googledocs for personal stuff and find it very workable.
