Social networks are great. The opportunities to make contact with others who share your interests, find chat networks for information and particularly for those who are shut-ins. That is one way I see the benefit for libraries. Those who are unable to make it to the library physically could connect up on-line for book information, even book clubs. The main problem is that many of our shut-ins are elderly and unfamiliar with internet use...but there are many others who could make use of a good library site.

Online applications and tools

Loads of potential for online applications and tools. I can see how valuable they could be for larger libraries and remote libraries. Could also be useful for interaction between branches. Can't see as quite so useful in our small branch where there's only 2 of us, but I think our headquarters could incorporate some of the programs to work between all the branches. I already use googledocs for personal stuff and find it very workable.

The online applications and tools are fabulous and I'm looking forward to playing around with them. I love the idea that it's "out there" where you can access your info from anywhere without having to carry it around. I also like the way you have control over who can see it. I found some limitations on Googledocs but it may be MY limitations more than the program! I think ZOHO looks amazing. This is great stuff for small rural libraries that need constant contact with headq and would save lots of emailing and faxing.
I had trouble sharing my document with nswpln@gmail.com. Was a bit stumped as to how to go about that bit!

Mashups are lots of fun. They could be used for all kinds of things in the library context. I just had a go at name-badges, and I can see how easy it is to do!

Podcasts

Fantastic way to make training available to those of us out in the bush! Sydney is 9-10 hours drive so we never get to any of the programs up there! Great potential for library use and it may already be happening and I don't know it!

Wikianswers is an interesting site. Very diverse. Is Answer Board Librarians Wiki still happening? Great idea but how successful ws it over the long term? I do like the idea of the ordinary person having the option of adding information, not just the experts.

I can see the benefit of delicious and particularly of library thing. However i am getting confused and frustrated by all the email addresses and account names and passwords...and not enough time to really look into the programs and familiarise myself with them. I can see that they are great but the time constraints are too much. I doubt that I will finish the course.

I to add the link to my delicious account because I couldn't follow any more instructions!!! Information overload!!!!
